Pamela Lanier speaks at B.E.V. NY CORNELL Conference
Wine-tourism author and Sonoma Sustainable Tourism Observatory founder Pamela Lanier spoke Wednesday on the topic of emerging trends in wine marketing and wine tourism in California at 2023 B.E.V. NY Conference, in Syracuse, New York.
Lanier was joined by Lisa Francioni, Program Director, California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance on a panel discussion titled Opportunities and Considerations for Sustainable Wine Tourism, moderated by Shannon Brock, co-owner and estate manager of Silver Thread Vineyard in New York.
“Wine tourism in Sonoma has proven to be resilient through fire, drought, and pandemic.” Lanier stated. “Our wineries continue to innovate new solutions in production, marketing and the consumer experience. It was an honor to have this opportunity to share this knowledge, actions, and examples of sustainable tourism to our colleagues in the New York wine region.”
In 2017, Sonoma Sustainable Tourism Observatory became an accredited member of UN World Tourism Organization's International Network of Observatories with a focus on issues such as California’s recurring drought conditions, climate change responsiveness and resilience, and the ways in which tourism can benefit communities.
In 2021, the Observatory team wrote Healthy Vines, Pure Wines – Methods in Organic, Biodynamic, Natural and Sustainable Viticulture, a handbook on organic and sustainable winemaking methods with case studies from North American vineyards and wineries, published by Business Expert Press.
B.E.V. NY is New York's annual conference for the grape and wine industry, combining the resources of Cornell's Extension Enology Lab, the Finger Lakes Grape Program, and the New York Wine & Grape Foundation. The conference invites academic and industry experts to present information that addresses important issues for the industry, and to do so in a way that provides practical information to those who attend. Seminars will take place over the course of the 3-day conference, with time each day dedicated to Business, Enology, and Viticulture topics.
